Our oldest daughter used to get carsick and plane sick…now she doesn’t. Instead of focusing on her upset tummy she can just watch the episode of Kung Fu Panda or a show off of Animal Planet that I’ve pulled up, and she’s fine. It’s a free app, but it’s worth MY weight in gold because I don’t have to clean puke out of my upholstery any more.

I honestly don’t know how my parents did it. Every summer they would pile me, my brother, and my sister into the car and we would drive about 12 hours, all in one day, mind you, to my grandma’s house. We would spend a couple weeks there and then pack up and do the drive again. As a kid that felt like the longest thing in the world, and I have to admit, as an adult, with a screaming kid in the back seat, the time doesn’t seem to have sped up any. In the last couple years though, things have changed with the advent of smartphones and the absolute flood of apps available. My kids love “Cut The Rope” and “Where’s My Water”, but their favorite (which makes it my favorite) is this remote access app I got through my job at Dish. It lets them pull live or recorded shows off our TV at home and watch it on my phone or tablet. Our oldest daughter used to get carsick and plane sick…now she doesn’t. I agree, sometimes the kids just like the pool or the beach the best. Kind of crazy. Growing up down there that is also the beach we would most likely frequent. Maybe not as well known as Laguna, or Malibu but definitely good enough.

My 20 month old never took s pacified and is out of diapers. We're flying from Oakland to Dullles tomorrow with a tight layover. My essentials will be 2 extra outfits for the toddler (one for an oopsie and the other for "oh crud our plane didn't didn't land on time and now I'm stuck in Chicago overnight", the back pack style car seat carrier in case there's an extra seat on the plane--lugging a heavy car seat any other way is awful!, the aquadoodle, and the original iphone I have that no longer has phone service but has "kids doodle" on it.
My last essential is an extra pair of pants for me. Let's face it--if my daughter pees her pants she'll likely be sitting on my lap when it happens!!

I was lucky enough to go to Disney Land over 10 years ago now with my wife when they had the Christmas decorations etc and it was great.

We have always said we would go back over this same period again and hope to do so next year.
